SAYLA has a variety of membership options for its prospective members! Are you a law student? Have you been licensed for 12 years or less? Do you no longer meet the definition of 'young lawyer' but still want to support our organization? Then there's a membership option for you!

As of Bar Year 2023-2024, there are four categories of SAYLA membership: Regular, Affiliate, Associate, and Law Student. Regular and Affiliate membership dues are based on years of practice, with select discounts for solo practitioners, government attorneys, and non-profit entity attorneys. Below is a detailed description of each membership type, including the annual cost.

  *A membership year runs from June 1 to May 31*

Regular Members

(Texas Attorneys, working or residing in Bexar County or its contiguous counties, licensed for 12 years or less)

  • You are licensed to practice law in Texas; and

  • You reside in or have your principal office in Bexar County, Texas, or a surrounding county (Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson); and

  • You have been licensed to practice law for twelve (12) years or less at the beginning of each fiscal year beginning June 1. 

Affiliate Members

(Non-Texas Attorney in the San Antonio area, licensed for 12 years or less)

  • Any member of the legal profession who has been admitted to the practice of law in any state or territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia, serving on active duty with the Armed Forces, or who has been admitted to the practice of law in a foreign country who has been licensed to practice law for 12 years or less on June 1st of any year, shall be eligible for Affiliate Membership for the fiscal year beginning June 1st, upon payment of the dues prescribed by these By-Laws. Such Affiliate Membership shall include the right to vote, but not to hold office. 

Regular and Affiliate Members awaiting to take, or to receive the results of, the bar exam or who have been licensed to practice law for less than three years five months (41 months) as of June 1 of the fiscal year for which the payment of such dues is required: $60.00

Regular and Affiliate Members licensed to practice law for more than three years five months (41 months) but less than seven years five months (89 months) as of June 1 of the fiscal year for which the payment of such dues is required: $80.00

Regular and Affiliate Members licensed to practice law for more than seven years five months (89 months) as of June 1 of the fiscal year for which the payment of such dues is required: $99.00

**Discounted Rates for Select Regular and Affiliate Members:

**Solo Practitioner, Government Attorney, or Non-Profit Entity Attorney awaiting to take, or to receive the results of, the bar exam or who have been licensed to practice law for less than three years five months (41 months) as of June 1 of the fiscal year for which the payment of such dues is required: $35.00

**Solo Practitioner, Government Attorney, or Non-Profit Entity Attorney licensed to practice law for more than three years five months (41 months) but less than seven years five months (89 months) as of June 1 of the fiscal year for which the payment of such dues is required: $45.00

**Solo Practitioner, Government Attorney, or Non-Profit Entity Attorney licensed to practice law for more than seven years five months (89 months) as of June 1 of the fiscal year for which the payment of such dues is required: $55.00

Law Student Members 

(Law Students; Law School Graduates Awaiting Bar Results)

  • Any person enrolled as a law student of a law school accredited or approved by the American Bar Association; any graduate of a law school accredited or approved by the American Bar Association who is preparing to take the next, or has taken the last, Texas Bar Examination administered by the Texas Board of Law Examiners, shall be eligible for Law Student Membership upon payment of the dues prescribed by these By-Laws. Such Associate Membership shall not include the right to vote or hold office.  In addition, if you are currently awaiting bar results, you are eligible for a membership and such membership shall not include the right to vote or hold office.

Law Student - One-year membership cost: $30.00

Law Student - Three-year membership cost: One-time fee of $60.00

Law Student - Four-year membership cost (applicable to night program students): One-time fee of $60.00

 

Associate Members

(those who qualify for Regular or Affiliate membership but have been licensed for over 12 years; direct affiliation with law firm or legal services; post-secondary students)

  • Any individual who would qualify as a regular or affiliate member of the Association except for the fact that such individual has been licensed for over 12 years on June 1st of any year; any person who has a direct affiliation with a law firm or provider of legal services; any student currently enrolled in an institution of post-secondary education who studies, is interested in, or is currently or planning to pursue a career in the legal profession; and such other individual(s) as may be approved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors from time to time.  Such Associate Membership shall not include the right to vote or hold office.
