You are eligible to join SAYLA if you are the age of 36 and under, or have been licensed 5 years or less. There are three levels of membership in SAYLA, as set forth in the bylaws. These levels are Regular, Affiliate, and Associate. Below is a detailed description of the memberships we have available so that you can determine the appropriate membership. Regular (Texas Attorneys Licensed in the San Antonio area, age 36 and under OR less than 5 years experience)
- Any person, duly licensed to practice law in the State of Texas who resides in or has his or her principal office in Bexar County, Texas, or a surrounding county (Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson) who is thirty-six (36) years of age and under on June 1st of any year or who has been licensed to practice law for 60 months or less on June 1st of any year, shall be eligible for regular membership in the Association for the fiscal year commencing on June 1st, upon payment of the dues prescribed by these By-Laws. Discounts are available for Government and Solo Practitioners.
Affiliate (Non-Texas Attorney in the San Antonio area, age 36 and under OR less than 5 years experience)
- Any member of the legal profession who has been admitted to the practice of law in any state or territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia, serving on active duty with the Armed Forces, or who has been admitted to the practice of law in a foreign country, who is thirty-six (36) years of age and under on June 1st of any year or who has been licensed to practice law for 60 months or less on June 1st of any year, shall be eligible for Affiliate Membership for the fiscal year beginning June 1st, upon payment of the dues prescribed by these By-Laws. Such Affiliate Membership shall include the right to vote, but not to hold office.
Law Student Members (Law Students; Awaiting Bar Results)
- Any person enrolled as a law student of a law school accredited or approved by the American Bar Association; any graduate of a law school accredited or approved by the American Bar Association who is preparing to take the next, or has taken the last, Texas Bar Examination administered by the Texas Board of Law Examiners;, shall be eligible for Law Student Membership upon payment of the dues prescribed by these By-Laws. Such Associate Membership shall not include the right to vote or hold office. In addition, if you are currently awaiting bar results, you are eligible for a membership and such membership shall not include the right to vote or hold office.
Associate Members (those who qualify for Affiliate membership but are over 36 years of age; direct affiliation with law firm or legal services; post-secondary students)
- any individual who would qualify as a regular or affiliate member of the Association except for the fact that such individual is over thirty-six (36) years of age on June 1st of any year; any person who has a direct affiliation with a law firm or provider of legal services; any student currently enrolled in an institution of post-secondary education who studies, is interested in, or is currently or planning to pursue a career in the legal profession; and such other individual(s) as may be approved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors from time to time. Such Associate Membership shall not include the right to vote or hold office.
